A New Lens on Neukölln (. Context / Intro (Powerful & Simple)
n Neukölln, young people came together for a day of creativity and discovery. Ukrainian youth recently arrived in Berlin joined the BUNT photography workshop to explore the art of taking pictures and sharing stories through images. Guided by Camila, a professional photographer, the participants were invited to look at their surroundings in new ways and capture moments that reflect their experiences. The atmosphere was full of curiosity, excitement, and the thrill of learning something new.
Capturing Stories, One Click at a Time
During the workshop, Camila introduced the basics of photography—light, perspective, and composition—but quickly turned these lessons into hands-on exercises. Participants walked through streets, parks, and everyday spaces of Neukölln, experimenting with different angles, textures, and reflections. They captured fleeting moments: friends laughing, shadows on walls, or details of the city often overlooked.
The workshop encouraged collaboration and conversation. Young people shared ideas, gave each other feedback, and inspired each other to try bold, creative approaches. Photography became a way to express themselves and discover their individual perspectives, while also learning technical skills in a playful and engaging environment.
Finding Confidence and Community
At the end of the day, the participants had not only a collection of beautiful photos, but also a sense of confidence and accomplishment. One participant said,
“I feel like my story finally matters.”
“I didn’t know I could see my city like this before.” Another reflected,
The workshop gave the young people a chance to connect with their peers, explore Neukölln through creative eyes, and express their identity through photography. With BUNT, these experiences help youth build friendships, find their voice, and feel at home in their new city.
